Our hard work? Ha ha! I did all the weeding, put the landscape cloth down, and shoveled the bark mulch. Oh well. My husband runs his own business so while he's off making the money, I'm at home, so it evens out. He did buy landscape ties over a month ago and he wants to put them in. But they're still sitting there. To be fair we've had a lot of rain over the past month. Who wants to do garden work in that? What you can't see in the photo is part of the front garden that I didn't put landscape cloth and bark mulch on. That's where my Icelandic poppies grow and reseed themselves. Also have hens and chicks in that area. And some tulips that I hope will show up in the spring. The section in this photo I plan to put in a couple more rose bushes, inbetween the rhodos and whatever that tree is in the corner. We're going to put some planters with pretty colored plants in the bare spots. That will be more manageable and then we can put the planters in the shed when the flowers are done. The next project is in the back yard where we're going to be tackling the jungle and putting in raised beds and growing veggies and replanting our blueberries and raspberries into them. I got the inspiration from someone on here who posted photos of their raised gardens and showed them to my husband, who of course said, "I can do that." I know he can do it. The real question is when. I'm sure if I start hammering some boards together he'll take over real quick!

My daughter has two huge Blue Spruces one in her front yard and one in her back yard and the inside limbs die off and they are trimmed back each year.Itlooks like your tree is fine.

My, what a lovely sight your yard is.  As for that tree I've got two of them and have mistreated them severely, poor things. The people who lived here planted them too close to other trees so one side was all brown and bare due to the lack of space. So I pruned off the bottom branches and now I can't describe what they look like.  But they're growing, which is the main thing.

I had to laugh at your comment about hammering boards together. That's funny.
Your plans sound awesome. I can't get over the transformations SO far. I'm sure the rest will be great. Roses in that space will be beautiful. Make sure you get the fungus-resistent varieties so you don't wind up with rosebushes that look like mine, though!
