Please identify, strong odor and sticky substance on leaves

Not sure, but as a starting point, many Salvias (Sage) have pungent sticky leaves.

The plant looks like a Paulownia (Foxglove Tree) which does have a fairly strong smell to the leaves.
The sticky stuff looks as though it is from aphids. Are there any on the plant?

no aphids, the whole plant is sticky.

is it growing very tall in one year?
paulownia as suggested, is supposed to have a rapid growth and HUGE leaves.
it is a TREE that's why i would be surprised if it were a paulownia and blooming sooo young.
but the flower DOES resemble it, although the paulownia i see around here have blue-purple flowers.
let us know what happened to it, and if you've got seeds.
any updated pics?

No, it is just a small plant. It is probably about 10 or 12 inches tall. So far it has appeared in my flower bed two different years and that was probably 8 or 10 years apart. I have no idea where it came from. Thank you for your help. I am anxious to see if it comes back this time. It could be that it is not hardy in zone 7.

I'll just throw this into the mix although I really don't know what your plant it. Could it possibly be a insectivorous plant (one that eats bugs) as it's sticky all over and has a strong odour?

I found a plant that looks like it though the flower looks a bit different or it's just a different view. It's called Devil's Claw (Proboscidea louisianica). Description: A glandular annual with upriht or reclining stems that grow up to three feet. Flower:Tubular flowers grow to one inch long. Leaves: Nearly orbicular to ovate-cordate growing to a foot across. Requirements: Plenty of sun. Bloom period: June through September. Habitat: Areas 1 through 10
Note: The fruit of this odd shaped flower is sometimes made into pickles and it can also be used in dried arrangements.
Also called a unicorn plant
It doesn't say anything about the smell or being sticky.

I think you are right, this one Proboscidea louisianica (P. Mill.) Thellung
Proboscis flower, Ram's horn, Unicorn plant
Pedaliaceae (Sesame Family)says it has a glandular nectar which would probably be the sticky substance on the plant. I took a pic of the dried pod for you to see. Thank you so much for your help.

It is hard to see but the brown specs on the leaves do kind of look a bit like old aphid skins.
The leaf and flower really do look like Paulownia, which as I have said does feel slightly sticky.
If it is not that then it must be from the same family.
