Toni, I have Asclepias lanceolata in planter that has made pods. Will photograph after sunrise and try to write down what I know of personal care to the plant.
I'll try to dig up some photos of it I took last year while blooming too.
i will also need help with it's care from more experienced gardener. I have limited knowledge as to specifics, perhaps someone else could do most of the writeup.

Man, during the holiday rush I forgot to get back to this topic.
Kay, any photos you can upload would be great, seedling, leaves, in bloom, thanks much.
Bodhi, looking forward to seeing the photos you find on that page and any information you have from your growing experience will be super. That's the fun thing about GardenStew Plant pages, everyone enters the knowledge they have about how a plant grows in their area and the depth of the information we have available to members and visitors creates a wonderful learning experience.

I'll have to apologize on above comment, my species is a. tuberosa, so have no photos to help you with of lanceolata. But made suggestion to add it, so could post on proper specie

Toni these butterflies are on milkweed, but I do not know which variety as I am not that good on botanical names. It gets a purplish flower every summer; makes the pods etc. We also have orange milkweed around here, but I do not have a picture of that one. Except for the flower color, I cannot tell them apart. Is this the kind you are looking for ? I took the picture [one is an edited version with the brown frame] to get the butterflies. These plants grow on the edge of my field if the power company did not poison them last summer.

PS, there are wisteria vines and other weeds in the picture too. I don't know if that matters or not.

AAnightowl, I am so sorry for not getting back to you about your photos. We were on vacation that week without the computer and I never saw that you had posted a comment to this topic.
As long as the main subject of the photo is the plant in question, then it should be okay. Go ahead and upload the photo to the plant page and I will be able to check it out, the photos in your post here are way too small for these old eyes to see much detail

Margie, thanks for the link. Actually what we need is for members to enter any helpful information on the plant page that possibly isn't there already and upload photos they may have of the plant growing in their yard or the yard of a neighbor.

Toni, I wasn't on vacation, I just didnt see this post for awhile. Unfortunately, my pictures of the milkweed are smallish. Other sites I visit want very small pictures, and since I had to get a new hard drive, some of my old pictures are gone. I will try and get out and get some new pics in this blazing heat. I found the orange milkweed blooming in the pasture. My son mowed the purple milkweed, boo hoo. Don't let me forget.
I just recalled that I have this posted on another forum of mine, and I hope the picture is bigger. I will try and post it.

AA... Usually only get to see one butterfly at a time... but this is an AWESOME photo. Did I count 8 of them?

I never counted how many butterflies in the picture. They were all over the milkweeds and there seemed to be dozens of them. I never thought to count how many were in the photo. I still have no idea what kind of butterfly they are. Maybe someone on here knows? I just counted 10 in the picture.
