That is really a cool piece! I love finding unusual things like that and giving them a new purpose! I always need to repaint my stuff so it looks new, thats just me. I agree with putting coconut liner and filling with something hanging! Great find!

I think the pattern on the wrought iron work looks like one of these greek harp type musical instruments.....

The pin is only $95 not bad! Although it would be much better to find one at thrift shop for $10! I myself prefer thrift shop finds!

We stopped at this Trading Post place that carries all kinds of neat stuff... statues, trellis, windmills... rock, mulch... rustic things... all sorts of neat stuff. We originally stopped to look for something to hang on the "ugly gate". Hubby picked this out. It was a bit too heavy for the gate, so we're going to put it on the "ugly fence" instead.
Anybody have a clue what it is? We sure don't.

Hubby said we should put some sort of plant in it, but I think that would hide too much of the "iron work". He also mentioned about painting it. But I think I talked him out of that.

Every time i stepped into the garden i thought of your nice piece of junk!,..and how my nice piece of junk were related,..mine is one foot high,..and two foot wide,..it was a container for oats and the like,.. in a horse stable,..it sat inside a frame very similar to your nice piece,..i just had to clear your nice piece of junk out of my mind,..lol.

I would look nice with some of the tillandsia plants just hanging around. They don't require any media so would not hide the great structure. After Hurricane Katrina lots of nice pieces came out of New Orleans. How ever they were quite pricey. You found a good bargin. LOVE it.

Well... I found a container and found a succulent to put in the "ugly thang" as it is now known as at home.
The plant is a "Calico Kitten" Crassula Marginalis Rubra Variegata.
Description on the tag "leaves blush beautiful rose-lilac in drought or cold. Excellent as a hanging basket..."
Here it is... all "ugly"....

And a couple more photos of it up close.

Time will only tell if it likes it's new "ugly" home! Very Happy

Nice color match. It will be interesting to see if it gets long enough to cascade down the sides.

Good luck with that plant addition. This had a good possibility of succeeding. However if you were not pleased with how it did...you might try hanging geraniums. There are some pretty bright red ones that exist and some white ones with a pink or red stripe on them.
That great piece of ...whatever it is...and it has so many possibilities. You are lucky to have it, in my estimation.

Sjoerd... do you think Geraniums could exist in a container so small/shallow?
All I could really think of to try was a succulent.
Guess time will tell how they will do.
