I planted these onions from seeds quite awhile ago and had them transplanted to the grow bed a couple of days ago.

This photo was taken yesterday after doing surgery to my camera. The sticks is to protect the onions from birds coming in for a landing and also for me to see where my onions are.
A total of 28 seedlings were transplanted and today I counted only 26 remain.....hmmmmm!!! Wonder what happened to the other two? Do birds eat them?

Looking good so far! Nop birds here eat them that I am aware of. Maybe your birds are more adventurous eaters.

Those are lovely looking transplants! I have no idea what happened to the missing ones. Usually rabbits and other pests avoid onions, and birds don't eat them, either. Do you have a hungry neighbor?
Glad you got your camera repaired--we would really miss your photos!

Ditto to all the posts. sometimes seedlings just don't survive the transplant. Sometimes they get attacked by soil borne diseases or insects and slowly fade away. Do you have a problem with slugs there? If one gets knocked down they don't seem to have a problem finishing off the plant. Sprinkle some ashes from wood or diatomecious earth.

Congrats on your germination and transplanting.
We have birds here that will pull up onions.....but they just leave them lying on top of the soil--they don't eat them.
The only thing that I can think of there is that perhaps birds pulled them up and took them away for who knows what reason...or one of those huge snails that you have there has schoffed them right down. Its a curious problem. I hope that you can catch the culprets at work.

Thanks Mart, I think maybe a bird accidentally pick it off while trying to catch an insect ... who knows?....

Thanks Marlingardener, we don't have wild rabbits here, hungry neighbour yes!! hehe 
Thanks Carloyn, maybe it was just a bad seedling, the rest are still there with none going missing since then and they are more visible now.
Thanks Sojerd, many things can happen but so far none had gone missing since then. Huge snail are under control cause I hunt them every other night.
Lukeypukey, they are grass clippings from my lawn.

That's a very nice-looking onion bed. If I were an onion I'd grow very big very fast. When do you think you'll be able to harvest?
