August is usually peak time for Butterflies in TN. I think the cold winter, and the extreme heat & drought have taken a toll. I have not seen some of the varieties I usually see and the numbers overall are down. Here are some of my favorites I have taken.

This is the first one that has ever visited my garden.

They are all beautiful. You must be doing something right to attract such a variety.
The Red Spotted Purple is a delight to see!

I'm glad you have so many butterfly varieties in your garden despite the weather conditions Gail. All are very beautiful and quite exotic to me.

What a wonderful and amazing assortment of butterflies you have floating around your area. You have taken such great pictures. I see some pics of the month in the future.

Thanks for all your comments. The butterfly activity has really slowed down with the drought and hot temps but I keep my camera handy if I see any in the garden.

Beautiful flutters of color in your garden.
Because of the heat and drought I have had a total of two butterflies in my garden since April. I have seen a Giant Black Swallowtail twice and a Cabbage White a few times in April and that's it.

Thanks Sjoerd, Toni & Phillip. The last few days all I have seen are skippers and sulfers. Some of the varieties I had last year did not show or I missed them. I have only had a few monarchs early in the season. Maybe I'll get some when they migrate south.

This week it seems like someone turned off a switch, I haven't seen any butterflys...I think they are leaving because we had some cold nights already. I don't remember ever not seeing them outside this early.

Sherry...ever since tropical depression Lee passed through I have not seen a butterfly. Yesterday I had one skipper, I usually have 50. It has been cool and rainy so maybe we will get some when it warms back up.
