At least I don't have too many common starlings but I have enough at times. One good thing is they don't hang around all the time to eat all the bird seed.

I've noticed a sharp decline in the number of starlings visiting my garden over the last two years. I don't know the reason for the drop in their numbers but at least there are still a few who drop by for their share of the fat cakes I put out.

Indeed, a group of these birds will clean a feeder out in short order. I'm glad I don't get them too often. Mostly during migrations.

Starlings really annoy me when they clean out my suet feeder before the other birds get a share :/ I try to chase em off when I see em...

I like to get a wooden post and I have my husband drill holes in it so I can fill them with softened suet. Then the birds are not all in one area going after the suet, if the starlings or other annoying birds want to eat the suet the woodpeckers go to the posts. In fact I think they like it more on the posts. I don't feed suet once it warms and I make sure I clean the holes out of any left over suet.
This picture is an old one but it shows the crows jumping to get the suet in the holes on the pole...it is very comical to watch. I do have a video but I can't get it to download right of them jumping at it on facebook.
