sewNsow, is that a Polk A Dot plant in your wheel barrow? If it is, it's the biggest one I've ever seen and it's beautiful! I have a packet of Polk A Dot seeds and hope mine get that big! Question: Can you put manure compost in with flowers without hurting them? This will be my first year I've ever planted so many flowers and veggies so bare with me.

Cheryl, I absolutely love the look of your Basket of Ferns. Do you have an updated photo of after they filled out or are those minis that don't get very large?

Thanks Toni. Here's a photo from today.

It really spreads and spreads. And flowers too! I'm planning on thinning out the basket and planting them right in the ground next to it. That way the basket deteriorates... it'll feel right at home in the ground.

Thanks Hummer... it was one of my favorite "dumpster" finds! The fern is looking a little rough from winter, but my aunt (who I got it from) said it'll be fine.

I have several baskets I am planning on planting in this year, I could get several of the smaller pots of ferns for one of them.

LOVE all these ideas!! Don't overlook old bar-b-que grills as planters! They work beautifully and high tops can be closed over starts to protect them, if need, be on cold nights. Just remove grills; fill with soil and plant! Old garden tools (shovels; rakes, etc.) make great decorations in the garden when stuck in, handle first, here and there, make excellant "stakes" for climbing flowering vines! I use anything that catches my fancy to plant in: the better beat up old tubs are, the neater they are when full of flowers. For this year, have found an old galvanized antique "nail scoop" that's slated for cascading petunias, will be hung on the deck above plants in buckets, a metal watering can and other OLD cook pots. Anyway, I think it's GREAT you all are so creative, THANKS for so many great hints!

Weeds... you mentioned cook pots. Have one and an old tea kettle that sits on an old burner.

LOVE IT! Gave me a great idea for using a small, table top bar-b-que that's seen better days! I MUST learn HOW to use my digital camera so I can SHARE a few things with everyone!!
