What are your houseplant watering tips?

One to start off:
- Most houseplants like to be watered thoroughly so water until it starts dripping from the bottom of the pot. It is important to water all of the soil so that roots have a chance to grow evenly. Just watering the surface is useless.

My tip would be to not overwater - people worry so much about underwatering that they sometimes can leave the plant no time to dry out at all. Plants that are constantly wet or (worse) sitting in water in a tray all the time can have their roots rot out from under them.

Take a moment to look up the water preferences for your plants - you may find they don't need it as often as you thought they did.

My boss claims that they need to be watered the same day or days each week. In our office, he waters them every Thursday and they are doing well.

Sounds obvious but do not underwater. Drooping leaves or shriveled leaves signify this. If the clay in the pot has become detached from the sides of the pot then chances are you have an underwatered plant. Check up on your specific plant's watering needs to determine its watering schedule.
