this bush is over 50 years old,its been on the property since ron was a little boy.it still smells wonderful, and we had to pull alot of trumpet vine out of it last fall. i was worried it wasnt gonna flower this year,thank god it did.

I love lilacs. My bush isn't much of a bush. It hasn't bloomed much since we've lived here. Last year I hacked out dead wood and suckers. This year it looks a little better but I still don't see too many buds. It isn't exactly lilac weather around here. Too dry. Dooley

sorry arizonas not the right climate for them, but i bet you have things we cant grow too,but i bet you know the wonderful smell even still!

I just love Lilacs.Heather has lots of Lilac bushes on her back fence at least 6 and one on the left in Montana.Her yard smells so good.

My Grandmother had a lilac bush every time I smell one I have a yearning for fresh baked tea cake and milk.

glenda,moms got a bunch of lilacs too, that was one good thing god created ill say that.
dooley,i remeber 2 that my mother -in law had years ago at her drive way, they were huge, i dont see as many these days, but im glad for the one i have here.
thanks garden, it is amazing! and the smell heavenly..
reg,i know what the smell does to ya,though i havent had tea cakes,i relate it as childhood memories!

I have lilac trees dotted around the back garden so that wherever I go I can smell their lovely scent.

eileen,i think when i get caught up i might look to planting some in the back yard, the big one in my photo is just to far from the house to fully enjoy..

We had very old lilac trees when I was growing up in New York. I always associated the smell with spring and as they bloomed quite late, with the fact that school would soon be out for the summer. I still get those feelings when I smell lilacs. Like Dooley, I wish they did better here. Still though, we do get a few blooms.

new york, i grew up in new .hampshire.i remeber the smellas a kid too, but i also remeber the the white birch, i miss that, in missouri they have a river birch, not at all like the white..i know full sun is best for lilacs, i had one in partial shade years ago, it didnt do good, i moved it,and i went wild!

We have some lilacs that were probably planted about the same time the house was built in 1935. I will be sure to post some pics when they bloom.
