Let me see what your planning to do in the way of fall planting......
What ideas do you use to make things happen?
All I can think of is Tulips, lilys, tulips, more lilys.
Ha ha
How I miss the Lily family.

I cant wait to plant tulips  I also want some daffodils and more lilies ^_^ Which reminds me, I need to fix up the area I have planned for the tulips...

Let's see, I have petunia, nasturtium, and thunbergia seed to start, and I am getting some pansy, viola, and snapdragon seeds this week, if any of the local places have them that is. And I might try some flowering kale this year, I've never grown it before.

I'm contemplating some more autumn crocus bulbs - really liked the few I put in last year. Also want to add some glads if I can manage it... need to divide some of my daylilies too... never a lack of things to do!

I am not planting much this autumn. I have ordered some Anemone nemorosa roots, some Corydalis, a new Erythronium and Galanthus elwesii. They will not take up much space to start with, which gives me a chance to make more room next spring.

Being southern........you don't have to rid the garden of the summer frost kills???? Correct? Do the flowers go to seed and quit after so many months?

Sounds good ........Crocus is what we look for first in our yards .COme spring. This year I did start Helleborus .....They are to be early also.. Ever do those? Never heard of glads in the fall.. We are zone 5 .But I do have one glad that blooms yearly which I dont dig up??????

I have Helleborus. The earliest is a dark red one who bloomed in January this year. Normally, it starts a little before the crocus, but we had very little snow and quite a mild winter until mid-February. The latest blooms in May/June, is taller than one meter, with green blooms, and it stinks! It's called Helleborus foetidus I think. But it's very pretty in the back. I also have the Helleborus niger, which is white, and some pink spotted ones. They bloom quite early, and the flowers stay pretty for weeks.
The Anemone nemorosa hybrids are very hardy. The wild form grows everywhere in spring. The hybrids in my garden show a bit later, and are very pretty.

I actually get to plant for fall twice... In october I usually plant mums and then in december and january, we start planting pansies and snapdragons. I am planning to do ornamental cabbages and chards this year.

Don't think I'll be planting anything new, concentrating more on enriching the soil for what's already there. And reshaping the pond-garden. And rebuilding a couple of raised beds. And remulching garden paths. Guess that's enough! But I'm saving my pennies and plan on having a big splurge on every kind of violet/viola I can get my hands on next spring...

This weekend will be busy for me! My iris arrived last week so I have to get them in the ground ASAP. it won't be long and my tulip bulbs and peonies will be showing up. This is the first time I've ordered peonies through the mail, wish me luck!

Now are you doing Pansy/snapdragon seeds? Viola seeds/
See if I read what you do, I might get smarter.
And seedfread......I wish I was that efficient.. I let ole man winter kill the things; I'm lazy.

Best of luck with your peonies! I've ordered lots of plants through the mail, and I'm usually lucky. Those that deliver bad goods won't get any new orders from me.

Thats a good Idea.
SOme of the seed Order places only give about 8 seeds in the pkt ......Tiny ones.
That isnt worth using an envelope to send them .
