Today we received a package from our grandson who is eight years old. We couldn't imagine what was in it. It didn't weigh much. I opened it and there was a Teddy Bear in it. I pulled it out and immediately recognized it as one I had sent Ben a few years ago for Christmas. Jacob has a matching one. This bear was missing an arm. A search in the box turned up the missing arm and a letter from Ben. The letter said, "Grandma can you please fix my bear. Ben" I will fix his bear. His mom sent money to return the bear and pictures of both boys. They are sure growing. Jacob was four in July and Ben was eight in August. Ben is in third grade now. Christmas is coming. I've decided I need to make a few bears. I guess I should get started. Along with a few other things I need to do. I usually now just send gift cards to a book store. They all enjoy reading and all have lots and lots of books. My granddaughter loves to read, too. All my boys have books they especially like and wouldn't get rid of for anything. Over the years during moves some were misplaced but never on purpose do they toss out a favorite book. I also have a collection of books that I cart around when we move from here to there. DR has favorite books too. Who could get along without a book? I sit down several times a day and there is always a book handy to read. Computers may take over things but people will always read. I have to admit I don't read books. I used to be a right bookworm when I was a kid but now I actually find it very hard to sit down and read one. My mind is always on other things like the website, coming up with new ideas etc... I will gladly read a programming or reference book however. Guess it differs from individual to individual.

My dad started reading to me the day I came home from the hospital....and I have not missed a day since.
Dooley, you are a dear to make/doctor teddy bears. My grandma used to make sock monkeys for me. I loved them. I have one that survived Katrine because he was up on an armoire and for some reason stayed there and didn't float away.

All my kinds love reading and always have done. It's such a relaxing way to spend even a few minutes each day.

Dooley I used to make Teddy bears too they were jointed ones with 'grunts' in them. The kids love them and still have them. Duncan is 34 but even takes his bear with him when he goes on archeological digs!! He says it brings him good luck.

I read until 4 this morning.I love to read and sometimes loose lots of sleep
if I have a good book I loose all track of time.I agree books are one of the most important things a child can have.

You made me think of a book I got for Regina when she was little, Bert and the Broken Tea Pot. She loved it so much, we went through two copies, and I had to find another one for Sarah when she was little. We read it over and over to both girls. I had to talk like Ernie and Bert. Thanks for the memory.
