Half Finished

Category: Garden Novice | Posted: Sun Apr 11, 2010 6:34 pm

I've completed planting half the ledge. I have about another 20 feet to go. The hardest part is removing the sod but I'm taking it slow and easy. I had a real hard time under the lemon/lime tree as the long spikes kept sticking me and bees were doing their thing. But I managed to get the sod out without too much damage to my body.

So far, in the sunny area I planted Bougainvillea, Yucca, Agapanthus, Day Lily's, Bird Of Paradise, Lavender, Plumeria, Geraniums and Creeping Charlie as ground cover.

In the semi-shaded area, I planted the 4 banana trees that weren't doing well in the sunny dry spot, Yucca, Lavender, Day Lily's, Croton more Geraniums and Creeping Charlie.

Hope to have some photos soon.

Can't wait to see the photos. Sounds like you have been incredibly busy. Love the variety of plants you are putting into your garden.

All your hard work is paying off Eileen. You have a lovely variety of planting - most of which are indoor tropicals here.
I'll look forward to your photographs.

Oh how I envy you for what you can grow. Too cold here and no room inside. Can't wait to see pics.

I'm debating whether to try and keep the creeping charlie in the garden as ground cover to cut down on weeds or to go ahead and add mulch. I don't have much to spend on bags of mulch so don't know what to do.

I haven't worked on the rest of the ledge yet but will try to finish it up this week.

This sounds very pretty and quite a job. I like ground covers for my rose garden as Ajuga grows thick and provides a nice dark background for the roses and daylilies. It's easily transplanted too. I know your garden will be gorgeous.
