snow total for Northern Michigan

Category: winter 2008-2009 | Posted: Wed Jan 28, 2009 4:44 pm

This just in this week from our local paper. By the time we're completly done with snow this year through atleast March, we will have easily reached an 30-year high.
As of January we have received 161 inches of snow. That totals 13 ft. 25-30 years ago we reached 175.75 inches of snow that fell in 1984-85. They say we had twice as much snow for December this year then we had all year. Then with all the below -0 temps we had last week. Its no wonder we're all tired of winter. Yet we're not done yet, they say Feb can bring an average of 12 inches with March averaging 11 inches. You do the math-by March we could see almost 190 inches for our snow totals for winter.
PLEASE someone bring us some SPRING.

Geeze and my yard is sitting down here with only about 5 inches of rain in the last 9 months.

I can understand why you want spring tho.

I'm not sure of the numbers here Petunia, but I'm sure they are not too far off. In the past 14 months we have had more precipitation than I can ever remember!
I'm ready for spring too :)

Amen!! I am so ready. We have about 12 inches here with almost an inch of ice under it. We went to school Monday and I don't think we will be dug out till the weekend. I work at the school too and at this rate we will go into JUNE to make up snow days.... AAAUUUGGGHHHH!!

As they say further north: If the snow crust is strong enough to carry a man by midsummer, you'll have a late spring. *lol*

I still wish for that snow to be more evenly distributed. I'd have loved about 20 inches of it, and then a bit more every week to freshen everything up. I wonder how all that snow will behave come spring. Will there be dangers of flooding?
