Lichen fruiting.
Not something that you notice very much unless you have an interest in lichens. This lichen, Peltigera britannica,Freckle Pelt, is fruiting.

Hi Kildale, Great photo! That lichen looks interesting. How big is it?
It is very small, perhaps 1/2" making it hard to see. You cansee by the moss that it is not very high.
