newcomer, wow!

Category: nature's marvels | Posted: Tue Oct 04, 2011 7:27 am

i had to write today. i had been waiting for this plant to show some life for a long time. it took some patience, really. nearly a year ago i got this water lilly bulb, planted it in a pot. it gave a few leaves, then wilted and went off, i thought it was dead. there was a bulb so small, i planted it again with more soil , and lo, there were all these leaves in a month's time, and today the first bud has bloomed. i feel so happy. the pot is a little crowded. there is a big frog who refuses to go out and there are four fish i put in.

there are weird cats too, it seems this one is of a moth, because i saw an odd shape the other day on a twig, when i tried to move it, it fell down with the wings and all, it was a baby moth.

Category: nature's marvels | Posted: Mon Aug 01, 2011 12:02 pm

this is surprising! i started to write and then uploaded two pics in the morning, then the power failed. i thought of writing again and i get two notifications! thank you, i had one more pic to upload.
here it is, if anyone has any idea who this is, please tell me, this is a stranger here, or i am seeing it for the first time. it merges so well with the cement wall it sits on, i almost didn't see it.

today's new blooms

Category: nature's marvels | Posted: Thu Jul 14, 2011 6:41 am

it has been raining most of the days now. the typical monsoon of the old days has gone, and the rains come and go - some days heavy, other days, it is difficult to believe it is the monsoon season !

i do get some flowers in the garden, some new ones at that. i am planning to try my hand with vegetables also this time. must see how it will go. the place is too shady for vegetables.
some pictures of my new flowers.

this too vanished!!

Category: nature's marvels | Posted: Thu Jul 07, 2011 6:02 am

well, we have a lot of butterflies in the garden. the annoying thing is, before the reach the flying away stage, they vanish. they lay their eggs, then the caterpillars are out, they eat up a whole plant, then they go into the pupa stage, then, gone. must be the birds. anyway, it is the rule of nature.
some pics.

rain!rain!!rain!!!

Category: nature's marvels | Posted: Tue Jun 07, 2011 6:35 am

The monsoon has set in at the right time. rains everyday, keeps on raining. work outside is not easy. plants need a lot of trimming and pruning once the rain slows down. but the heat of the summer has gone, it is very cool this time of the year.

i had been waiting for this plant to flower for a very long time. and this year, it has bloomed. i just love the fragrance it gives, heavenly.

this is one more of my plants, once it blooms, it stays for along time, each opening to give blue, yellow clours

memories of an unexpected holiday!

Category: thoughts & plans | Posted: Mon May 23, 2011 6:21 am

once again, i am back. i just returned from an unexpected holiday. went on a visit to dubai to be with my grandson. and i enjoyed my stay there, for 3 weeks. we visited a few places in the limited time my son could manage with his job. and easter came in between, so that was an experience too.
it is amazing the amount of work they put in to make the desert lush with green lawns, colourful petunia beds, and date farms in and around the city. there are a lot of nurseries selling all sorts of plants. my son picked up a bonsai from one of them in the outskirts. let me post some of the pics.
