As we have been having frost the last few nites and still currently. My hubby said we would have to leave water spraying on our strawberry patches all nite if we were going to save them from frost.
There is still ice on the fence dripping, but has melted off the strawberries.
I have 3 rows that I pick from both sides in my patch and my hubby has 2 rows in his.
The plants do seem like they are better with the ice. Seems the plants themselves are bigger.
I think without the water spraying over them, this could have been a whole differant story. Because of the heavy frost that we've recently had and again tonite, we probably would have lost all our plants.
All thanks to my knowledgable hubby about frost. We'll be having bowls of Delicious strawberries soon to come. mmmm....can't wait.

You've got some serious ice there!  I never knew that water spraying plants would protect them from freezing, so I learned something today.

I know the spud farmers here turn on the sprinklers when the frost alarms go off!! Has always baffled me how cold water could keep things from freezing  I'm sure glad it worked for you, your plants look just fine.

The ice on the fence looks like a lace border - glad you were able to save them.
I've heard of sprinkling before, and go out to water all my porch plants if it looks like a freeze is on the way for that same reason - the idea is the water is warmer than freezing and by surrounding the roots with it the freeze only gets the outermost water frozen instead of getting all the way down to freeze the roots themselves.

Thought I would just show a few more of our protection wall of ice.
A few shots with the ice actually on our strawberries protecting them from frost.
Just one last one. I'm excited to see how they do this year. As I went thru and put rows in between-for easier picking, thus giving my husband his strawberry patch also.
