I recently took this picture of a butterfly near the coast in North Carolina.
Since I'm a complete novice when it comes to butterflies, but these seem to be very common in this area, can anybody tell me what kind of butterfly this is?
Also, just for fun - what is the "flower" called the butterfly is sitting on?

Thanks all and have a great day,
Koinseb
