Volunteers are wonderful people. Without them many places, including our library would not be able to work. So, as a part of National Volunteer Week the library board and city gave a volunteer tea to show their appreciation. It was all very nice. But, I'm sitting here laughing because they gave them all a special gift. It's a pair (connected) of little green rubber boots with yellow soles. They are maybe 5 or 6 inches high. Inside was a bag of soil mix that will maybe fill half of the boots. There was also a package of seeds to plant in these cute little rubber boots. Want to venture what kind of seeds were included for these cute "little" boots? Giant zinnias. Yep, they were supposed to grow giant zinnias in a cup of soil in little rubber boots. They would have to be watered daily and as soon as they come through the soil they would be so top heavy they would fall right over sideways. The people who put these things together must not be gardeners. But, hey, it's the thought that counts, right! I know I appreciate all the volunteers who I have the pleasure of working with on a daily basis. dooley

Laughing It's a sweet gift anyways. I hope most volunteers have a garden patch or somewhere else to put their zinnias, and maybe someone who could actually wear the boots. Very Happy

I'd plant the zinnias in the garden and keep the boots for any passing gnome!! Wink

You're right Dooley without volunteers the world would be far worse off. Just think how many people give their time to projects abroad for instance to help out communities. Rescue services, medical needs, housing, water supplies, teaching and so many other worthwhile ventures.
