We live in a bi-level home and are planning to replace the flooring on the 1st floor with laminate flooring. Ultimately we want hard wood upstairs, but with having small children and a 100 pound lab, we're going to wait on that for now. My question is, what do we put on the steps? We're planning to do laminate in the entryway as well but the downstairs is carpeted. Do we do laminate or carpet on the steps? Thanks for the input!

Personally, I would put laminate. It will out last the carpet and look much nicer the entire life of the laminate.

I used to have carpets throughout the house but changed to laminate flooring. It's the best thing I ever did!! It's so much easier to sweep up and wash the laminate than have to hoover and shampoo carpets so I've voted for laminate flooring.

I've found that carpets, children and pets is a very bad mix, so I'd go for laminate too.
