I have two shrubs/trees in my yard that are very unusual looking....at least to me. We are in Zone 6a. They look very tropical with beautiful lavender trumpet shaped flowers that bloom in mid spring. After the flowers fall off, It gets HUGE elephant ear shaped leaves that are very soft and velvety. Can anyone tell me what this is?

I think it migth be a Paulownia tomentosa, or Foxglove tree you've got there. Link to floralimages

Whatever it is, it is absoulutely outstanding. Beautiful now and the way you describe it after the blooms fall off, sounds gorgeous. I like unusual things.

Forgot to ask... does it grow very fast? If so, I think it is a Paulownia tree. My friend has one and is so lovely.

I finally found it in one of my books. It is called Royal Paulownia. There are two in my yard. I will try to find out how it is propagated. It is really spectacular!
