I'm reading a book called "Blink".
Malcolm Gladwell wrote a well researched novel about how humans have a natural ability to make split decisions in the "blink of an eye" that are actually well educated "guesses" and often times turn out to be the correct decision even after we go back and research our hasty judgement call.
I like it, lots of well researched info and very easy to follow.

I've red Wilbur Smith's The Quest, his fourth book about Taita the magician from old Egypt. How anybody can manage to write so many pages about absolutely nothing I don't understand. I was bitterly disappointed.

I'm reading The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. I recommend it, it's stealing my sleep time!

I recently read "On Ice" by new author Red Evans. It's a quick read and funny story about a boy and banjo player who travel across the U.S. with the boy's dead uncle in the back of a pickup truck who's on ice in a kiddy pool...oh yeah, and there's a flatulent dog in the back seat!

I have been thinking about starting a Biblical garden in the back yard so I'm looking for ideas.

I've dug out Vera Henriksen's novels set in the Viking age. Entertaining and not too demanding.

Polly, if you prefer inspirational or Christian literature, you might enjoy "The Wednesday Letters" by Jason Wright. It's about a family who gets together after their parents death, and discovers letters that their father wrote to their mother throughout the years. It's been popular here, and thought I'd mention it.

I am reading the true story of the Lawson family tragedy and its aftermath: "The Meaning of Our Tears" By Trudy J. Smith.
[quote]"
"About 1:30 o'clock on the 25th day of December 1929, some unknown force overcame the mind of Charles D. Lawson, near Germanton, Stokes County, North Carolina, and he killed his wife, Fannie, and six of his seven children. Then he slew himself."
- Trudy J. Smith
It sounds pretty depressing, but is a very intriguing account, and also gives the reader a slice of life and culture in the NC foothills during the late 1920s. Some of it was pretty hard to get through, but most of the content makes it very hard to put down once you commit yourself. (I found myself waking up one night last week, lying in the dark with wanting to cut the lamp on, and continue with my reading. I knew if I did, I would have a hard time staying awake at work. I had to make myself stop pondering, and go back to sleep. It also contains historical pictures and documents of that time period, and is a very thorough piece.

FOR ALL WHO ENJOY SUSPENSE (AND DOGS)...
I'm about half way through Dean Koontz's new novel THE DARKEST NIGHT OF THE YEAR. It's a suspense novel like you'd expect from Koontz, but also highlights his other passion...golden retrievers. I'm really enjoying it.
