|
Day before yesterday I was working on the peas and I was surprized to hear this loud blowing sound behind me! It was the swan family. They had glided up behind me when I wasn't looking and the father wasn't taking chances with me so he did his aggressive act.
Well it doesn't work with me, afterall it's MY lottie, not theirs.
I went right away and got the camera and took some fotos as did my partner. Here are the results.
They are magnificant beasts...but they must stay in the canal heh heh heh.
Swans in a row:
Feeding:
Dad guards the rear as they withdraw.
Dad finally moving on:

A great group of photographs. There certainly seems to be lots of babies around your allotment.

Awww, they're the cutest little things, and mom and dad are so majestic! We haven't got many swans around here, but I always enjoy seeing them. We were chased by a very angry daddy when fossil hunting in Denmark last summer. We withdrew. It was his beach, not ours.

Ha ha ha ...Biita--that was supposed to be a well-kept secret.
BTW, I noticed that I had neglected to insert one foto which I have now done. It was the one where the father was guarding the rear as the family left.
Thanks you folks for your nice words about these swans. I haven't seen the duck family since I took the foto. Such a large family of ducklings no doubt attracts the attention of the various predators that lurk along the banks of ther canals.
You were wise to beat a retreat, those swans can be real meano's when they want to be--downright grumpy sometimes.

You took some really great photos. Those birds are absolutely beautiful! They are so graceful looking. I haven't seen any around my area...we get a few ducks here and there. Now when I lived in Alaska we had tons of ducks and geese in the summer...it was always really neat to go see them.

Beautiful pictures...beautiful birds. You could enter those in a contest, Sjoerd! We had tundra swans migrating through earlier this spring. I was never able to get close enough to get a picture, though.
