It has grown to this size in a year. It must be from a seed/pip/stone a bird or animal has drooped or pooped - but it is growing so fast. We live in Southern PA. We want to transplant it as it is not in a great place but wanted to know if it has a tap root. Thanks.

May be a birch. Can you get a closer up of the bark?

I thought of elm, but I'm impossible when it comes to trees. Those leaves don't look like our birch leaves at all.

Check out American Elm.

The leaves in pictures 3 and 4 look like yours.

Yea I was going to say some kind of elm (I have been looking at tree pictures for the last hour, hehe). I just didn't find any pictures with kind of bright green, so I was positive. All the elms seem to have similiar leaves though.

Thanks guys. I have spent hours looking online at photos. I thought Elm too. However I think it might be a Hackberry
http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/774/85010314.JPG
Which has an elm like form and is in fact related to the elm. When I was looking at the elm tree it had different leaf pattens to the tree I have and can only find the Hackberry that looks like this. However I have found photos a Chinese Elm and that does look like it too. I am still not sure!

I'm thinking Japanese elm. Fast growing, nasty tree.
Keep it and you may regret it as it will seed everywhere and drop twigs like crazy.

I kind of had a bad experience with one of those little buggers Because it was alive and growing I fell in love with it! It grew sooooo fast!! The roots tore up the driveway, the branches pushed on the fence and the bugs loved it! Because it grew so fast it was weak and an old lady told me that it would break in the wind and probably land on my garage! So needless to say my husband got rid of it
