Thank ya'll for the nice comments.
Crying or Very sad Alas ButtHead the cat is no longer with us. She became food for owl late one evening. There was nothing we could do about it, and Crying or Very sad miss her antics a lot. We also have coyotes in the area so have to be on the vigual for them too.
Smile On a happier note we are entering our busy season. We rercivied our first free bees of the season yesterday. They are now residing in there new area and will get a whole new home after a few days of getting to know the area where they now are.
Pictures to follow in the near future.

The girls love these fall blooming Blue Knight Spireas, we have 2 of them.

Have been told honey bees can't work the red clover since the nectar well is so deep. I laied in the grass and watched theis one chew a hole near the base to get to the nectar. A month later it came out in a Magazine they work red clover more than we know.

They Like the Swamp Milk Weed too.

Very Happy Al

Sorry to hear about ButtHead Al Sad How did you know that an owl was the culprit? Did you witness it?

Your busy season sounds like something you have been really looking forward to Al. I wish I had your garden and bee setup now Very Happy

Sad Ya we saw it. It missed the bigger older mother cat but did roll it in the mud. Butt head just a foot or so away didn't fare so well.
Owls are protected here, Coyotes are not though so they tend to stay away from our property.

Yes I have been looking forward to the busy season. Even have gotten my first stings of the year Laughing Laughing .
Last one on the bottom of the wrist itched like the dickens the next day.

Very Happy Al

Our first free bees of 2006. Not much to look at but they did make it threw the winter with out any treatment. Maybe even have made it 2 years with out any treatment. the brother didn't know for sure he don't care for bees like his brother did.
Equipment is real ratty too.Plus what the vandals did.

Check the hive with the outer cover gone. Maybe some alive in it Kare said.

All dead.

Getting set to move.

At their new home.

Very Happy Al

So sorry to hear about Butthead Al - what a way to go!!! Sad What kind of owl was it that took your cat? An Eagle Owl perhaps?

Thanks again for all the photographs. What a waste of colonies letting them all die like that!! At least you now have some more bees that I know will be well looked after.

Love the colour of the Blue Knight spireas. Very Happy

Kare's triple tub sink unit looks just the job - you'll have to let us see it again when it's installed in the honey house. Smile
