Something's up with the Cauliflower

Well something seems to be up with my cauliflower. They really haven't gotten any bigger than they were when I transplanted them into the ground. They still look healthy though. Hubby bear says they grow down first and then grow up, so I won't get bigger heads until later.
Is this true, or is there something else going on?

Gosh...well, right away planting caulis already with heads is something totally new to me. I have never heard of that.
I am not sure that they will get alot bigger, but I sure hope so.
They will need lots of watering and perhaps some feeding.
If you do not fold the leaves over those white heads they will discolour.
BTW, when did you transplant them into the ground?
Another tip is that you could scratch-in a little bit of nitrogen around those plants...then water that in really thoroughly.
I hope that you will keep us updated with your plants' progress.
It's fun to grow veg, isn't it?
Is that lettuce I see there?

That is arugula right in front of the cauliflower and then the spinach is in the box in front of that.
When I first bought the cauliflower it didn't have heads yet. Those developed after I had transplanted them into a pot for a few weeks. Then I transplanted them into the ground once I got it all dug up.
I transplanted in late May, if I remember correctly. 
I will have to look at doing a little nitrogen and see what happens. When I transplanted all of my plants, I mixed the potting soil in with the regular soil.

When I have something that needs nitrogen, I use "blood meal", but there are many different things you can use.
Well, I hope that those cauli heads will grow some more for you. Just don't let them become really dry, or they'll go to seed.

It could have something to do with how warm your soil is. What are your temps right now. If you are still getting low night temps it could be affecting the growth rate.
