The best time to dig up a rose bush is when it is in a dormant state. This is generally in autumn (one the flowers are past)or in spring before the plant begins to put out new leaves. :stew2:

Dormant simply means the time when the plant is no longer growing and producing leaves and flowers.

Does your friend want the rose moved soon? If you can't wait until fall or early spring to move it, the best time would be in the cool of the evening and get it replanted and watered good before the light goes for the day. A good rose food like MiracleGro Rose Food would be a great help when you replant it, too. Sometimes you do have to move things when it really isn't convenient. If you can, cut it back so there are no flowers or buds on it so it puts it's strength to growing roots and not flowers for this year. Hope this helps some. dooley
