was told it's a shrub... with white tiny but cute flowers

Hello,
I also need an ID for this shrub. Bought it from an old man in the market and he told me in winter it dies to the ground and comes back in spring, and that it doesn't grow taller than a bit over one meter which is like 3-4 feet.
The flowers only grow on top.
What exactly did I buy and was it a good choice? I planted it in front of my parents' house, full sun, by the road - doesn't get too much traffic there.

I looked it up and it appears that it is smooth sumac.
