I have three rose bushes that I bought this spring. Upon purchasing two of them they had beautiful roses and now nothing. I also purchased a mint julep that was a root originally and has started producing leaves finally. I have a black thumb when it comes to this not knowing anything. The first rose bush is a climbing peace. Last week I decided to cut it back a little. The tips are now brown but still seem to be thriving. Did I hurt it any? The second bush had the same problem so I cut it back also but on the larger cane half is green and half is brown yet still thriving. Does that mean it's dieing? On the third rose bush my mint julep. I was so proud that it had one bud and then a storm came and broke it. Will my bushes have any more flowers this year or am I just out of luck until next spring? Is there anything I can do to help them reproduce blooms?

The rose that brok off will probly put out more blooms.The two you cut back should over come this but it being Texas is going to be so hot.I hope they come back.You need to water your roses early mornings as powder mildew can become a problem.

when you say they brown do you simply mean they are dieing and rotting or just turning into wood
try just leaving them alone and not prune them...maybe for a year or two
and just keep weeds off of them
and what glen said dont water in the day time...the sun will fry them
do they have wax on them?
might explain them turning black
if so a homemade green house might help
i take a sheet of plastic or fuzzy glass and cover it right above it and not touching it to protect it from midday sun helps alot if they have wax on them here
