This isn't exactly before I started gardening, but pretty darn close. I'd thought I'd lost all my before pictures in a computer meltdown several years ago, but luckily dh had a few saved. We moved here 10 years ago, so it's changed significantly.

Back yard had pretty much nothing but the trees. Even then, I see I had a vegetable garden out back since I see a chicken wire fence. Nice grass huh?

Before pictures are always so interesting.
I love the way the boardwalk is made, I will have to show that to Randy and hint.

I like "before" and "after", they're so much fun to see. Your board walk is very nice. It doesn't look too hard to do either.

Well you've certainly made a whole lot of progress since those piccies. Very Happy It's hard to believe that it's the same garden as you show us now. The ten years you've spent making your garden certainly hasn't gone to waste. Mr. Green

Thanks for the kind words. I decided to make a before/after page. It might make more sense to see the before/afters together at the same time. Very Happy

You sure have done a lot of work. It looks so nice! I was thinking along the same lines for the boardwalk, since my hubby bear parks at the end of our long yard...it would give him/us a better way to walk out there.

Your yard is beautiful. Thank you so much for making the "before/after" page. I am new here and had not seen any "after" photos. I LOVE the picket fence in front with all the plantings climbing on it. I've always wanted a picket fence. You are obviously a gifted gardener.

Thank you so much for sharing!

Martha

I've always wanted to do a board walk but thought it wouldnt hold up since it's so close to the ground. Yours is holding up and for 10 years! So, how was it done? Pictures look like boards were laid down with planks on top..is that all there is to it? If you could give a boardwalk 101 I'd be thrilled. Your yard is beautiful and shows alot of hard work!

We have had to replace 3 of the boards that warped over the years, but it was a cheap and easy fix. Just unscrew the old board, screw the new one in! Dh posted it on his site. You must use treated lumber. It looks like we actually did this in 2001, so it's been 7 years.

Boardwalk Instructions

He has upgraded the boardwalk to go clear to the back door, over the patio, instead of ending at the patio edge.
