|
Started my daylily garden in late June. Leaves are turning yellow. What could be the problem? Hoping they don't all turn yellow. I trimmed off the yellow ones as I planted them and thought that would be the last.
Any/all advice helpful. Warm regards,
BJ in KY

Hi Bj,
When we buy plants and the old leafs are yellow, it is usually because plants are grown and displayed to close together where air and sun can reach them.
Noe that the lilies are planted, it could be a water issue or maybe poor soil.
I will ask if you are watering to much as yellowing is a tell tail sign of to much watering. Daylilies are hard to kill, but drowning will do it.
If you can pick yp a handfull of soil and it remains a dirt ball, then back off watering.
A lack of water and the leafs would begin to wilt and turn brown.
Planted less than a month ago in poor soil, your foliage would lighten some, but not turn yellow this fast.
If watering isn't an issue, then play it safe and get your soil tested for pH and other minerals like Iron.

I have only ever lost a daylily due to a very wet area it was in. Otherwise here in Wisconsin the rain seems to be enough or runoff from watering the annuals...Good luck....Sherry

If you started in late June it hasn't been 30 days yet. They might be adjusting to the new environment. I'd give them a little while. They are hardy little dudes

They will be fine. They are very moveable at all times of the year but they DO go into a shock when they are first planted or transplanted. The best thing you can do is cut the greens off to 6" and wait til next year and see all the beautiful lilies you have. Make sure they keep moist til the fall and but not soaked. You won't have any problems with them. Why do you think we love them so? They multiply themselves, love sun, can stand to go on the dry side, they come back every year and bring new fans..........and the best part they are gorgeous!
Happy Lily Planting BJ!
