Hey, everyone. I'm kind of new at growing flowers so this may be a no brainer. I picked up some marigolds. I planted some in a pot and some along the edge of the house. The ones in the pot were fine but the ones on the edge of the house shiveled up and died. I have other plants next to the house that are doing OK. Any ideas?

Buying them at this time of the year it could be that they were in those little pots for so long that they were root bound. If you break the roots loose before planting them that helps them spread out into the surrounding soil and grow.

Pots usually hold water better than the ground...it may be that they needed to be watered more often than the ones you put in pots. It could also have something to do with how much sun they were getting on that side of the house vs. the amount of sun the ones in the pots were getting.

Sounds like they weren't getting enough water along the side of the house.
When you planted them, was the root ball good and wet? When they are in cell packs too long, the roots get tangled up and have a hard time absorbing water. I always make sure to soak them right before I plant them.
