I have a cherry laurel out front that has grown into a tree. It looked like a small tree when we bought this place. It makes the little berries & underneath, I have cherry laurel seedlings coming out everywhere! I just went out this afternoon & started pulling them up. I put them in a bucket of water and then just put about 30 into plastic pots leftover from trips to the nursery. Now, I realize none of you are close to me, but if you want to drive to West Texas, you may stop by & pick up your very own cherry laurel seedling. Some are a few inches high & some are a foot tall. They seem to make a tap root, so I need to get 'em when they're small.
Also of note, while I was out doing this, a vehicle stopped & a lady popped out & began asking questions about stuff she saw in my yard. The wisteria sinensis on the West side of the house drew her initial attention. Then, she pointed at the Alaska Shastas & then her husband popped out, then adult daughter. They looked the place over like it was on the market. I answered all questions & offered to give them seed heads in Fall. Then, I dug up & gave them several specimens of that euphorbium stuff - the poinsettia relative. They liked that.
Another noteworthy thing: while pulling up the cherry laurels, I discovered 2 grape vines growing in there. I did not plant them and they were not there when we moved in. My neighbor to the East has grapes on the West side of his house & is starting his own vineyard out in the country. I reckon some birds helped themselves to a few of his grapes & then relieved themselves while perched in my cherry laurel. I need to ask the neighbor what kind of grapes he's got, because I bet what I found today is the same. I dug these grapes up too & put them in big pots. Gotta find someplace nice for them!

Too bad I'm so far away...I'd gladly take some of those off your hands!
Wisteria tends to draw peoples attention doesn't it? You must have been proud to show off your garden.

Thanks for offering, but no thank you. Mother's got those and they're self-seeding there too. We haven't got room for them. They are pretty bushes, though.
I had to snicker a bit at your story about the visitors. I've had that happening here too, and I think it's nice when people take a liking to what I've done. You were very generous, I must say, to share some of your stuff just like that.
I managed to get rid of a piece of rhubarb when a lady came to see if it was her cat we had here. We've still got the cat, however.

I would love some cherry laurel. Is there any way you can mail me some? I will pay for postage or trade some of my plants and shrubs.
