How do you do rooted cuttings on african violets? I have purple/white doubles and purple doubles. I would like to know how to get starts from them. If it works, I will send you some.

Pinch of a leave leaving plenty of stem. Dip in rooting hormone and nestle into a bed of pearlite. Keep it moist and steadily warm, on top of a fridge is a good place. That should do the trick.

Agreed, they can be really easy to get going. I just gently tug a leaf off and like Mary says, just keep it in very well drained compost and water from beneath, but not too much. A little cluster of mini leaves will appear from the base of the stem and lo and behold, a new plant is born.

These two are very good ways. One more way that I used is to put the stem of the leaf in water until roots form. Then useing root harmone (just a little to help in growing) pot in some potting soil. I have presently 2 plants with little leaflets now growing.

Well, nothing yet. Not a single root. Just about anything else I stick in the dirt grows like crazy.

I usually use a seed tray so that the compost is not too deep. Take a leaf and cut off the stem right up to the base of the leaf, thereby not leaving too much stem. You have to be patient and (as long as the leaf does not rot) you should eventually see a few little leaves showing from the leaf cutting. Take quite a few cuttings, and hopefully some of them will take.
Having said all this, different methods work for different people. I think it is mostly trial and error :)
