I just looked up the Spicebush Swallowtail and the caterpillar looks very different from mine but the butterfly is identical. The instar stages were also different looking but the chrysalis was identical.
Any more comments? I'm puzzled now....

The caterpillar can only become the butterfly it is programed to be....could someone have swapped one chrysalis for another at some point?
Your original question in this topic was about the chrysalis falling from where it was hanging. Could someone have noticed that the chrysalis was indeed destroyed and replaced it with another one not realizing that it would be a different butterfly?
