Put out bowls of beer, they will go in there and drown.

You can also put salt on the ground and that will dry out the slugs...
Salt
If all else fails, go out at night with the salt shaker and a flashlight. Look at the plants which have been getting the most damage and inspect the leaves, including the undersides. Sprinkle a bit of salt on the slug and it will kill it quickly. Not particularly pleasant, but use as a last resort. (Note: some sources caution the use of salt, as it adds a toxic element to the soil. This has not been our experience, especially as very little salt is used.)

This link has lots of ideas for natural repellents.

Please be very careful with the salt! I kill slugs by either squashing them or dividing them with a dandelion iron. Others collect them in buckets and poor boiling water on them. It kills them quickly. We've also got snail traps out, they work well too.

The only stupid question is the one never asked. I'm sorry for assuming that everybody knows what garden tools I use here in Norway.

I find slugs once in a while, but our red ant populations around here seem to keep them controlled. They are good for something. I've seen a slug control powder in the nursery that gets spread over lawn and beds. The name escapes me though. If I find it, I'll pm you.
