I got these this spring from a bulb place and as they do have the spots (freckles) and the turned back petals..besides the color, they just don't seem the same as when I was younger. I had seen orange then. The stems with so many flowers on them is confusing to me..that is what I don't recall. Is this the type that you remember?

They don't seem the same to me either, Sherry - but they are beautiful. I love the close-up shots.

I just would love to find the old fashioned ones in orange but most places do not even sell them.

I suppose this is what is called progress. However, I much preffered the 'old' and origional Tiger lilies. They are still beautiful plants but why, oh why, can't we keep the ones that we remember from my younger days too?

Are these the tiger lilies that you remember?
I will be thinning out my lilies in a few weeks and would be able to send you some of the roots.

The kind you remember is the wildflower Day Lily called Tiger Lily, Orange Lily or Ditch Lily... Lilium lancifolium, Hemerocallis Fulva
I think the one you bought is the Oriental Lily called Tiger Lily.

Our tiger lilies look like the picture I had but orange and larger. Not what we call ditch lilys like what gardenmama showed. I bought mine with the name tiger lily but it must be a heirloom..I have the ditch lily too but really want the old fashioned tiger lily in our area...Sherry
The tiger lilys we know have spots like a tiger...that is what I remember and these that I have are as close as I can get.
Gardenmam...I have plenty of the ditch lily...they grew in a field by my mothers..thank you anyway..Sherry

I have the yellow ones too and I think they refer to it as a "Turks cap lily". I have the orange ones you are referring too (I Think, they haven't bloomed yet) I bought about a dozen of the little bulbil seed things from a lady on ebay about 5 years ago and they are finally big enough to do something There is a bulb lady on line that probably has them too. Look up Van Bourgondien and see if she has them. I found her because I was trying to find some of the Martagon lilies that everyone except me seems to have

Those freckled ones are gorgeous. We have some the orange ones here. We always called them Barnyard Lilies. Thay've already finished blooming. Maybe i aught to give them there special place since they're so hardy any way.
