I can keep mine at least 6 months...but thenI do not have ideal conditions.
I suspect how long one can keep onions stored depends upon the conditions in which the onions will be stored...as well as the quality of the curing before storaage.

hey sjoerd, did i make you proud???! Mr. Green

http://www.imageuploads.net/ims/pic.php?u=27615PDlUo&i=161888

the one on the top right was the first one i made. i struggled a bit and it's kind of sloppy. the middle was the second, and i got the knack of it by the left one, third, i was a charmer!!! Mr. Green

the first two are Yellow of Parma, and the third is Australian Crescent.

i tried to make a photo on 'my garden'. it took me to the page where i choose the pics, etc..., but then it wouldn't upload. i know the glitch is with me, so i'll keep trying!

Yes, you sure did you handy little gardner, you! Those look very good to me. Isn't it amazing how heavy a little string can be?

You had some nice onions as well. I hope that they keep good for you and that you find this method of storing handy to use.
Even if you don't, they still look nice--well done, Bunkie!
Not only I am proud...I'll bet that anyone that sees your handiwork will be too. Smile
Way t'go!

thanks so much sjoerd. you know, it wasn't too difficult once i got the gest of it, twining the onion branches around the twine and not the opposite! i think this is much easier than braiding, and would definitely be an eye catcher and seller in the farmers market. thanks so much for this! it will be in my repitoire from here on out! Very Happy

You are very welcome, Dan. Space is always an issue with me, and these strings take up far less than say a couple of crates full of them, and they are easy to hang up nearby the kitchen.

Oh my......a root cellar. What I wouldn't give for one of those. I have made and used clamps before, but while they work perfectly well, they are a bit of trouble to build and maintain every year. Having said that if I ever get an overwhelming harvest again, I will employ the clamp once more.
