I've been on a cleaning, sorting binge ever since I had to childproof the house when Fintin was coming to visit. He's just now one and I had clutter everywhere. Who worries about clutter when it's just you two in the house? Anyway I decided I had too much stuff. I started cleaning and sorting my sewing corner this past week. Imagine my surprise when I opened a box and found these. There are 30 of them so these are just a sampling.
This is a Dresden Plate block. I started the quilt over six years ago and packed them in a tin when we moved up here. It's sat in the corner and I totally forgot about it. There are 20 finished blocks and 10 that are just pinned on the squares. I bought the printed pieces at a yard sale all put together. I just had to sew them to the blocks. Now, I will finish it. I have material to put the blocks together.
Next surprise, two bears cut and sewed but not stuffed. I had to put the joints in and stuff them. I did that Friday and today. I know just what I am going to do with them but that would be telling.
I wonder what I will find when I get around to finishing the work in the sewing corner. dooley

Those bears are just wonderful.They are so very pretty .I'm afraid I would surly mess them up.You do such wonderful work.That quilt is going to be so very pretty as the blocks are now.I can't wait to see it all together.

Gorgeous Dresden plate pieces. Those look like feed/flour sack fabrics.
The first two quilts I made were Dresden Plate, one in reds for my parents and the next one in blues for my oldest daughter.
And I inherited some Dresden Plate wedges when my Grandmother passed on.

There are so many different patterns. They were all cut and sewed in circles when I got them. I think that is the hardest part. I bought 20 Sunbonnet Baby quilt blocks a couple of months ago.They are old. They are sewed on muslin that is old and turning brown. I'm thinking I will sew them together with print material. But since the dresses are all different prints I'm not sure about that either. I may just make a lap robe and sew them together with a solid color material. I always buy material or quilt block pieces when I see them if there are a reasonable price. dooley

That sewing corner of yours must be a veritable treasure trove dooley!  Lovely bears, and I'm looking forward to seeing that quilt all done.

Ohhh i am drooling over that quilt. I love it! The bears are wonderful. You do excellent work dooley, i envy people who can sew. I can't wait to see what comes next, and the next bears.... Keep sewing please, i'm impaitent! J/Kidding, but i do want to see what comes next,,,

It must have been a lovely surprise to find those quilt plate blocks Dooley. The finished quilt is going to look beautiful. Those jointed bears look like a friendly duo - sooooo don't keep us in suspense - what are you going to do with them?

The Dresden Plate wedges are tricky. You have to remember to cut them so that one of the long sides is on the straight of grain. Then if you sew them together on a machine have the straight edge on top so the feed dogs of the machine will ease in the bias edge for you. Sewing by hand, pin a lot, sew with the bias edge on top so you can prevent little folds along the edge.
And they must be exactly the same size and shape, I quit buying bags of the wedges at garage sales and shops, most of them were unusable because of those irregularities.
And begin and end your sewing line 1/4 inch from the ends of the pieces that makes turning the curved edges under when you applique them to the foundation block possible. And you might need to make little snips along the inside curve edge to help it turn under too.

Beautiful blocks! I started a sampler quilt with 30 blocks back when I was pregnant with my first son and still have those darn blocks in a box around here somewhere. One of them was a Dresden plate block and I remember practically having fits getting it right. Someday, I hope to have the time to put all the blocks together. Please show a pic when you finish that quilt.

The antique patterns are so beautiful, Dooley. I sew, but need incentive to finish patterns I've started. Finishing a project is so satisfying and you have the talent.

It's been so long since I've been here, it took me a while to remember what my password was to get on. Just wanted to say a special "thank you" to a special lady--Dooley--for a very precious bear I received in the mail yesterday. Was I surprised!! I LUV it! "Teddi" is trying to adjust to his new home as I told Dooley and Desert Rat yesterday in my email and call. My "Teddi" is the one with the red bow. Welcome back Marlene and yes dooley and dr are just wonderful friends of mine too.I'm glad your bear made it with few bruises from bouncing around in that big old truck so long.I know you will enjoy him at your house.

What beautiful quilt pieces . . . sounds like a good project for when you can't get out and garden. You sure are talented. As for the Sunbonnet Baby pattern . . . I remember that we had one on my baby brother's crib when he was a wee one . . . he just turned 43 years old this past May.
