I have tuber roses of about four years old, there is a big clunk of greenery but this year I only had five bloom stems. How often do I need to divide and separate these? Could that be the reason for the few blooms? Thank you for all help.

Just being curious here - do you know their scientific name? I've never heard of tuber roses before.

I really didn't know, but looked it up and here's what I found; Botanical name:Polianthes, commom name: Tuber Rose, Flower meaning: Dangerous Pleasure. They smell wonderful. I took a couple of pictures, they are on photo bucket but I don't know how to put them on this blog or how to put a link for you to go there and see them. Thanks for your response Droopy.

Thank you. I've read about it, and it needs at least 6 weeks of good growing after blooming to make new bulbs. It looks like it won't bloom more than once on each bulb, and they get crowded quickly. They want dividing at least every 3 to 4 years. We can't grow them outside here because of our short season and cold winters.

Thanks Droopy,
Maybe the weather will be cooled off in six more weeks and I will try dividing then

Thanks for the help on division of my tuber rose. I have dug the bulbs and lost count but there were an excess of over four hundred bulbs in the one clump. If they thrive now I will have tuber roses in a lot of different beds. I will look forward to next bloom season to see what happens.
Thanks again for all comments.

Flowerlady if you want to post photographs on the forums here then it's really very easy to do. Go into your Photobucket account and pick the img option underneath the picture you want us to see. Right click to copy it and then simply right click to paste it into the post or blog entry you'd like to see it in. Job done!!

What a lovely bloom! I'd really like to see a big drift of those next season - or are they in season now?

SongofJoy57,
I have never heard of the Tube Rose snuff, I think the kind my Mom dipped was Red Seal, think I prefer the flowers. Thank you for your reply.

Droopy,
No they are not in season now but we'll hope for a lot of blooms next season, Lord willing, since I did get them divided.
