Well, the Chinese Greens, Bok Choy, and Peas have sprouted. Keeping my fingers crossed for the Cauliflower and Beets.

There's a guy at the Farmer's Market here that'll plant beets really late in the summer, then come May he has a table full of beet greens.

Sounds like the fall garden is off to a good start.
I am hoping to get some cucumber seeds in the ground this weekend.
Summer temps hit us too soon and hard for cucumbers this spring so maybe I can get some in about October.

Yum! We have planted overwintering onions, late baby carrots and beetroots and oriental radish. Still have to get the oriental greens sown.

Hello there! I wanted to do some fall gardening but wasn't sure what to plant. I'm zone 9 or 10...
I wanted to try spinach, lettuce, and I'm planting some garlic soon. Oh yes, and peas, I'll be planting some peas soon.
What else would do well in fall? Carrots?
I see some are planting beets, and cucumbers. Is it too late for cucumbers?

I have a packet of 'Glacier' tomato seeds I planted some a week or so ago, one started to sprout. Then...my baby ripped it out of the container and smashed it with a toy! I'm going to try again, and put it somewhere else so she can't reach it again..

I don't know about regular spinach for the winter, but "Perpetual Spinach" will work, also Swiss chard, Purple sprouting broccoli and additionally there are a host of winter lettuces, endive, leeks and radishes.

Good luck.

I'm excited as this is the first fall garden I've had. I'm about to put in leeks to overwinter, spinach, garlic. Yes, I do think carrots would do well, and other root veggies like rutabaga and parsnip. Good gardening fall gardeners.

Wow I had no idea you could plant things this late and still get a good crop of them. I had heard of fall gardening but never gave it much thought. I will have to think about this.

P.D.
I think it all depends on the type of winter one has as to wether they can put in fall or winter gardens. Here in Mich about the only thing that I can over winter is garlic.

That is probably why I had not heard too much about this as we can get really cold weather early here too. I guess in the south you could do more with this.
