I friend of mine sent this pic that his sister took. It is a bat, feeding at a hummingbird feeder at night. The pic was taken in Tucson,Arizona.

Like kuntrygal I will never look a a hummer feeder again without thinking of the bat.I thought all they ate was insects and lots of mosquitos.

I don't know what kind of bat it is. I do know that there are fruit bats that eat sweet fruit. So it may be one of those kind to be drawn to the nectar.

I did a search on Fruit Bats and found some info. The picture of it did closely resemble this bat. Here is what I found about their diet.

Diet: Fruit bats, as their name hints, consume fruit and flowers. These bats usually suck on the flowers and fruit, then swallow the nectar or juice and spit out the remaining pulp.

Awesome!!! We have a lot of bats and hummingbirds in our area. I never thought that bats would go after sugar water, but am glad for all the bugs they eat. That picture could win an award (and just in time for Halloween)!!!
