There are a couple of them in my backyard that have gotten used to me being around to the point that I can get within about 4' of them. Might be catching them for supper someday.

If I had my way I'd 'em along with the magpies!!!! They both rob nests and take either the eggs or the young.

A catapult? I could never imagine having them in my garden, they are very shy and nervous around here and hide.

Yeah My dogs take care of most anything that comes close to the yard now(kids included). What the dogs dont get, the cats do!

You could try the following trick to prevent the squirrels entering the more sacred ares of your garden.
Next time you visit the barbers or hairdressers, ask to take the freshly shorn hair home with you.
Tie bunches of this hair with thread and place bunches where required.
I realise this sounds like voodoo or an outtake from "The Blair Witch Project", but stick with me.
It seems that the squirrels pick up the scent of hair/fur of another "animal" and are discouraged from entering their domain.
This method works with various degrees of success depending on wind, rain and dumbness of vermin.
