My favourite type of rose has to be the rugosa rose. Often scented, beautiful orange red hips and fairly low maintenance

OHH!!!! Hmmmm My fav rose??? I love teas!!

But the one in my garden that just couldnt do without is the Crysler Imperial. My Blue Girl comes in close second.

One rule in my rose garden...

It has to smell good.

I don't have very good luck with roses!!
I planted an old-fashioned climbing tea rose I dug up at my dad's house. They were planted by a family relative about 50 years ago!! Shocked It's the only rose I've planted that hasn't died. It has the old-fashioned rose smell with tiny pink blooms in a cluster I think they are sometimes called seven sister roses.

I think maybe that is the rose that is climbing up the fence between two of my yard sections. It has clusters of little pink flowers. We had them in our yard when I was a kid. I couldn't remember what they were called until I read the post. Seven sisters. They will get new roots if you bend a branch over and cover it with dirt. DR likes Joseph's Coat because it changes colors almost every day. They smell good, too.We have a lot of rose bushes here but I didn't plant any of them so I don't know the names. Well, I planted two. A Queen Elizabeth and a Tropicana. Both are climbing. Dooley

(Note to Frank: If this is a no-no, please delete. My hubby and I always follow these instructions.)

Catkins,

How to Grow Roses

1. How to Plant:
http://www.jacksonandperkins.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/base.d2w/report?html=how2rose.html

2. Summer Care of Roses:
http://www.jacksonandperkins.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/base.d2w/report?html=summercare.html

3. Winter Care of Roses:
http://www.jacksonandperkins.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/base.d2w/report?html=wintercare.html

4. How to Grow Climbing Roses:
http://www.jacksonandperkins.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/base.d2w/report?html=climbroses.html

5. Prune roses:
The best time to prune roses is in early spring just before new growth starts — sometime after the last killing frost. See #4 on how and when to prune climbing roses.

6. Container/pots Roses:
Roses can be grown in containers. Miniature roses and small floribundas are easiest, but even hybrid teas will do nicely in planter boxes.

7. Stopping Black Spot on Roses:

Hi Joanne, I have no problem with informative links being posted. Sometimes this is abused but these links are right for this context

Last year, after acquiring 4 white trellis planters for the garden, I made the decision to put roses in all of them Smile. I never thought they would grow as quick as they did Surprised . Looked great Very Happy . Kept having to dead-head and tie back Rolling Eyes, or else they would have been out of control Shocked . Pruned them all a couple of weeks ago.
