this plant looks more like a tree! I has large leaves about 8-12 inches across shaped like a heart. The plant has had no flowers at all that I have seen. It has a woody stem. It is taller than me and I am 5'6" so it is 7 feet tall or so? I thought it was a tree because it started as a "stick" about 4 ft tall and as the spring and summer went on it has become very large. Is it a tree of some kind or a flower or what?

It's hard to tell what your mystery plant is searcher. Would it be possible for you to take a photograph of it for us? Seeing the 'tree' for ourselves would help us ID it for you.

hello...
first tree that came to my mind matching the description (heart shaped leaves) was and still is CATALPA
http://www.inmygarden.org/archives/CATALPA-SAPLINGs444X300.jpg

and well, the second guess would be a tilia...

is any of these your tree???
these are the heart-shaped-leaf trees that grow around here!

It looks more like the tilia but the leaves are not pointed and the edges are smooth. I cant think of what you call the serrated edges on the leaves!! but the edges are smooth on this. I have been looking at flowers and I think it might be a tree. If it is I will have to move it, as it is growing right next to the house in the flower bed. I lost a tee in the front yard during Ike. It was beautiful. In the spring it was full of beautiful bright pink blossoms. Then the leaves turned purpleish.
