|
Hello
I love azalea bushes and how they bloom in the spring. I planted several next to my walkway last spring after we finished an addition to our home. I noticed that several did not survive the sumnmer. I have had trouble keeping some of these alive before. I do not know if it is due to our soil being more alkaline and they like acid or what?
Can anyone give me any suggestions here? I really would like to replace these in the spring and keep them going.

Sorry to hear your asaleas are not doing well PD. You are right about the soil, they do prefer an acid soil. Also, if your climate is quite dry that can probably affect them. In the UK mine usually get a good supply of rain water!! I think the secret is not to let them dry out too much but to water them, preferably with rain water. Hope this helps a little.

Thanks for the advice. We did have a very dry season this year and that may have affected them. I wondered if that might be the case. Thanks again and for the site.

Azaleas like acid soil, moisture, and fertilization. Without those elements they will not do well.
High maintenance plants they are.

Yes I am figuring that out slowly but surely! If I did not love the way they looked I would have given up on them a long time ago. I am stubborn though and want them down my walkway! I am determined to get them all going strong this year.
