I have a bunch of daylilies that I had to move due to the addition on my home. I had transplanted them once before several years ago with no problems. However, this spring and summer they did not have hardly any blooms on them. Before they were absolutely gorgeous blooming for quite some time. This bunch has been planted for several years and has grown to be quite big.
Any suggestions as to what happened? Do you think they will bloom this next year or do I need to do something to them to get them to bloom?

They will probably bloom like crazy if you dig them up, separate them and transplant them somewhere

Ah ok you know I wondered if that might be the issue. I was afraid to dig them up again though until I found out if that was what was going on with them. Thanks so much. They were gorgeous for years and I sure did not want to lose them!

When I separated mine I had oodles to give away! That's one of the many things I love about daylilies

a nice thing about daylilies, you can transplant them anytime. A person has to work to kill them off.
Like iris and other blooming plants, things get to thick and need a good thinning out or down sized.
Yes, split them anytime.

I planted some day lilies and have not had any blooms yet. Does anyone know whether they prefer a particular position in the garden. Mine get the morning sun but are planted in the shade of trees during part of the day.

I would think that would be ok. I have one that gets too much shade and he hasn't done a thing  My goal next summer is to find him a real sunny spot!

Thanks Deanna. Maybe I will give them one more summer and if they don't bloom I will do as you and try to find a sunnier spot
