Does anyone have a tried and true way of killing Wisteria that is literally taking over? I googled and found several things that might kill it, but nothing that was real effective. I'm sure it will take more than one season to get rid of the d*mm stuff. It is beautiful in trees (although I am sure it eventually kills them), but I want it OUT of my yard! Can anyone help>>> Rolling Eyes

If the Wisteria have thick stems, try and put copper nails in them. I know of several people who have banged an annoying tree full of copper nails in order to get rid of it, and the trees obediently died.

Yes it does have thick stems. I will get some copper nails and pound them in! Hopefully mine will be obedient as well. Thanks for the tip Droopy. Wink

If anyone else has tips, please let me know. I will try all of them at once !!!!! Might be an over kill, but I want it gone.

Hey Kuntrygal, This won't be any help at all but it is a funny story. I had wisteria growing wild in SC. I was desperate to get rid of it, tried everything I could think of- and yet my mother wanted to grow it in her garden. I tried to warn her, showed her the damage but she still wanted it so she took cuttings of my wisteria. Now she regrets the decision. I pruned without mercy, begged it to leave my garden in peace, made bargains, nothing worked. I finally learned to live with it but I pruned it hard every spring. I haven't heard of the copper nail treatment- please let us know if it worked! Good luck!

I am from New Mexico, where it it largely desert. It is ironic to me that you want to kill a Wisteria while the two Wisteria I have planted in my dry, sandy, hot, windy, back yard have been nurtured so they can have a chance of surviving! I don't know how to kill a Wisteria, except to bring it here and not supplement it with water and nutrients. Smile

I bought copper nails and pounded about 2 dozen in the stump. It didn't kill it. It is now starting to flourish again. May try burning the stump! Mad Mad

Did you get pure roundup and not water it down and pour it on the mother plant?I know the hard way and I have no choice but to let it go but have about 25 trees gone that it has killed.

I'll try the Round-Up concentrate. There has to be something in this world that will do it! Mad Mad

Being a wisteria lover, I'm plugging my ears. My wisteria arbor is my favorite place! LOL

I hope you can get yours under control though.

I am in Eastern Washington, and I have tried repeatedly to get Wisteria to grow. Isn't it funny? Kind of like the old saying "One man's junk is another man's treasure". The Wisteria arbor is beautiful!!!
