I am researching my Great Grandfather who fought in the American Civil War. Have gotten quite a bit of info on him and am trying to get it put all together. He Joined the Union Army in 1861 and was discharge in 1865 when he was invalided out. I have copies of his pension card and my great grandmothers widows pension card. There is a lot of research that you can do online. I also have leads locally where I may be able to find pics of him in uniform along with others in his Regiment. I am finding this very interesting.

I was bitten by the genealogy bug a few years ago. I found out a few things online, and met some distant relatives. It IS very interesting!

My eldest son has researched both my side and Ian's side of the family. He discovered that one of my ancestors was in the party that greeted Mary Queen of Scots on her arrival at Linlithgow Palace!!
Good luck with your search CK.

Sounds fun, My great great grandfather, an Irish immigrant, was in the Union Army too. Here in Missouri, a border state. During a battle, he was wounded. His buddies`left him in a hedge roll and ran off. Some rebel soldiers found him, patched him up, gave him back his rifle and left. He went straight to Texas, and never came back to Missouri.
Well, that's the story my grandmother gave. She never did tell me how she ended up in Missouri.

Good luck captain Kirk.
We also do some "gene" research and it is quite amazing and sometimes frightening what one can uncover in the process.
I found that my great grandmother was related to Jan Hofmeyr. (Some historic figure of the colonial days when the Dutch occupied the Cape). He is also known as "Onze Jan" and there is a statue of him in Cape Town.

Good luck, Capt. I have done lots of research too, but kind of got fed up with it when I couldn't find new material. Besides there were neither kings nor criminals in my family line, so it got boring too.
