As someone mentioned, a dog is still one of the best security systems.

Video surveillance might be an option, you would notice sooner that someone is probing your home when you're away for work. Burglars often check their targets before coming back at night. I've seen a wireless system that's very easy to install and to move around when required: http://www.cleverandeasy.com/Security/vuezone-truely-wireless-home-security-cameras.html

You still have to be willing to look at the footage of course, I don't know if you can have the system only show you those sequences where there was movement detected.

Nobody in my house thinks we need any type of security. I guess until someone breaks in, we won't get anything. Sad
